How Does My Pain Behave?
In this module, we’ll take a closer look at your pain and symptoms.
We know that the brain and nervous system play a key role in protection, and they have the ability to turn pain signals up or down. Together, we’ll explore evidence of the nervous system’s involvement in your sensations and consider how these signals may be attempts to protect you, not harm you.
Many people with chronic symptoms feel confused or discouraged when their body seems to react in unpredictable ways. You’re not alone and there’s a clear, hopeful path forward.
Throughout this module, we invite you to approach your symptoms with curiosity rather than judgment. This mindset shift is a key step in calming the nervous system and changing the pain response.
When we begin to see that our body isn’t broken, but is doing its best to keep us safe, we can shift how we relate to these sensations. This new perspective allows us to respond with greater compassion and support. In doing so, we help teach the brain that these symptoms are not a threat—and that we are, in fact, safe.
By the end of this module, you’ll have a clearer understanding of the nervous system’s role in your symptoms and a few tools to begin working with it gently and effectively.
